Hill Walking in Connemara
On the way up!
|
Hurrah! We made it to the top!
|
The senior classes go hill-walking every year. This year we climbed
Benbaun which is the highest mountain in Galway.
It is 730metres in height.
We thought that we wouldn’t be able to go hill-walking this year
because the weather had been so bad but on Wednesday 19th June we set
off with Pádraig, Mrs. Farrell and Miss McMahon to climb the highest
mountain in Galway! We took lots of rests and kept together and
before long we were at the top! We were lucky that it didn’t rain and
that there were no clouds on top of the mountain. There was a lovely
view from the top and our teacher pointed out the other ‘Bens’.
We could also see Mweelrea Mountain - 803m, which is the highest mountain
in Connacht. Maybe we’ll climb it some day! We had to be careful
coming down because the ground was wet.We went to 'Supermacs' in Galway
afterwards. We had a great day!
Last year we climbed Derryclare Mountain, one of the Twelve Bens.
Since 1997 we have climbed the following mountains in Connemara:
Lackavrea 398m, Benlevy 416m, Lugnabrick 494m, Derryclare 677m.
Are we there yet?
